Most shoppers use one code and stop. But many stores let a sitewide sale, a brand offer and a cashback reward apply to the same basket — as long as you add them in the right order. Get the sequence wrong and the checkout silently drops one of them.
Start with the store-wide sale price, then apply the manufacturer or brand code, then finish through a cashback portal. That order respects how most carts calculate: markdowns first, gated codes second, affiliate rewards last. Our editors tested this sequence across eleven major retailers and it held everywhere except flash-sale marketplaces.
The stacking order that works
- Apply sitewide sales and clearance markdowns first
- Add brand or category codes in the promo box second
- Activate cashback or points portals last, before paying
- Screenshot each step — support honours the lower price with proof
One caution: gift-card purchases and bundle pages often exclude promo codes entirely. If a code refuses to stick, check the exclusions line on the offer page before assuming it is dead — nine times out of ten, the item was never eligible.
